Imaginary Viewing Platform for the Antitwilight Arc as Viewed from Lake Michigan, Facing East

The horizon is just a curtain shielding the gentle curve of the earth.

Video composed from collaged hand-printed, digitally drawn, and photographic elements accompanied by audio field recordings and delicate electronic music. 2023

Video Description: The video opens with an expansive sky punctuated by flickers of light. A collection of jagged shapes, one bearing the markings of the four cardinal direct, rotate in the center of the screen. Gradually, architectural forms appear. A boxcar shaped room wallpapered with a black and white printed image has a circular hole cut in its floor through which a gentle, placid lake surface can be seen. Behind this construction, an areal view of a city at night, pinpricks of light piercing the dark. In the foreground, a square digitally drawn animation of a sun rising and setting plays with the caption: “The horizon is just a curtain shielding the modest curve of the earth.” These elements disappear and the screen goes briefly to black before the full image of the lake at sunset fills the screen. The lake’s pearlescent surface moves like silk, oscillating between pale pink, yellow, and blue.
